Profile Explained

The trail starts about 10 miles from the Nisqually entrance at a small parking lot on the north side of the road. After about 1.6 miles of steady elevation grain though a forest of Alaska yellowcedar, silver fir and hemlock the trail crosses Falls Creek and then very shortly Comet Falls comes into view. Further, steep walking is rewarded at about 2.5 miles with the flower fields of Van Trump Park and the option of taking an unmaintained trail to Mildred Point for the best views of the Kautz Glacier. Assuming that transportation can be arranged you can continue down to Rampart Ridge and then down to road( or add .2 miles back to Longmire) to make a loop. This loop option starts with fantastic views of both meadows and mountain and then transitions into quite and relativity unpopulated forest trail.
